Welcome to Under The Stars Entertainment

Started in early 2013, with a unique idea in business, Under the Stars Entertainment has begun a journey to change the way our friends (the public) can be entertained.
I started this journey many years ago, unknown to myself, frustrated that there is so little for families or individuals to do in life that is affordable, fun, and different. I needed to find a way to change that. I have always been a movie watching buff and have had a love for projection technologies since a young kid. Having seen my first projector at a hobby show in Toronto 25 plus years ago, I was hooked. I got my first projector over 10 years ago and have enjoyed using it. It has become the source for fun for my family and friends ever since.
In 2015, I jumped on a unique purchase of a used inflatable movie screen I found online. I soon realized it was way too big for my small backyard. Determined to take my home projector outdoors, I found a way to make it happen. When my family and friends saw what I had, they were all very excited to experience the big film under the big night sky.
My wife mentioned to me she thought it would be neat to do it in her sister’s backyard for her niece's birthday; I was enthused at the idea. I soon discovered the challenges I would need to overcome in order to create a fun movie environment outdoors in a big yard, sound, wires, equipment, rain, wind, and cost, were just a start of the challenges to overcome.
By midsummer I had ironed out all the wrinkles and was soon realizing this should be more than just for my family. This might be a great way to give back to my friends, neighbors and the city I called home for the past 20 years. I put my head to work to see if this was a viable idea to pursue and decided it was. I managed to allocate funds to buy the core equipment I needed for a professional looking setup. I still have my eye on a bigger screen than the 12 foot one I currently have, and I am researching ideas on how to transport it to different areas. Still figuring that part out!
I was now faced with the challenge of how to make this free entertainment available to the public and still bring in money to maintain and upgrade equipment in the future. I work full time in retail so I have limited funds to start this epic adventure. Licensing, permits and insurance are the 3 expenses I can’t control, so I had to find a way to make money to cover this.
I decided I should charge for private family events in their backyards and for any events that are not free to the general public and not sponsored by organizations. The events that meet my criteria, I can secure funding from organizations to cover costs, and will be free and open to the public, these I will not charge for. I will receive advertising for my company from the open events and cover costs from private events by charging for them. Ultimately I am part business, part non-profit, and a big part “bringing families together”, which is the moral direction I aim to keep this adventures goal.
